This instrument is also meant to provide a medium-size format that goes beyond the Seed Money Grants to give an opportunity for new or the maturation of existing projects, and increase the chances for further activities on both sides of the partnership. The one-year Research Merger includes the organisation of collective workshops, conferences, and fieldwork. It is also to foster initiatives for mobility of 1 or 2 young researchers (PhD candidates and PostDocs) of the group and will support their stay between two weeks and two months (requiring a clear previous research plan).
The Leading House opens the first call on July 6, 2017, inviting Swiss scholars to propose mono- or interdisciplinary research projects in any Latin American country, involving bilateral or multilateral partnerships. Depending on quality and availability of funds, 1 - 3 projects can be financed per year. Considering that one of the roles of the Leading House for the Latin American Region is to identify research areas, the next call for 2018 might ask for a thematic focus (i.e. digitalisation, water, or food) covering all disciplines.
